Anyway this post is long overdue. Instead of a lengthy play-by-play of the trip, which could take couple of pages (you know me), I'm just going to give you a list.
Los Angeles
Pros
LA would be a really cool place to live. Everything is so laid back and carefree there, and it's clean with big spaces. Kind of remind me of Australia.
Disneyland and Universal Studios were a lot of fun. Who doesn't want to be a kid again, once in a while? My faves were the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and the Universal Studio Tour at Universal Studio.
Cons
We didn't get to go around in the city centre. So we didn't actually really see LA , did we?
The tour guide was Chinese and speak mandarin only. Can you imagine going to a tour in US and the tour is in mandarin??
Las Vegas
Pros
A totally surreal place, anything and everything you can imagine, they can make it happen in LV. The casinos were simply fascinating with large-scale monuments, grandiose designs and spectacular shows.
The roller coaster ride in New York New York and the extreme rides at the Stratosphere Tower - were just perfect for adrenaline junkies like me, Rach and Kat. But I have to say I was totally freaked out by the Tower rides. Especially the one where you sit in a two-seater seats, buckle up and the ride goes in a circle. Doesn't sound too scary right? Well imagine that at the top of say, KL Tower and you were suspended in mid air 60-storeys high and looking down into... well ...nothing!
Cons
Apart from the casinos, there's nothing much to do there.
New York
Pros
It looks just like in the movies doesn't it? Crossing one of the bridges we'll think, "hey, isn't there where Matthew McConaughey chase after Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"? In the subway I'll be thinking this look like a scene in Heroes or Spiderman.
In Chinatown there were just hordes of Chinese people walking around. So you won't feel out of place there. With plenty of Hong Kong and Malaysian cuisine restaurants there, at least you know you'll get decent Chinese food when you need them.
Had the best juiciest steak over there. And also the best japanese food ever!
Central Park was so peaceful and beautiful. It was nice to see some cute happy dogs taking a walk there with their owners. Dogs totally rule in NY.
Times Square at night was simply stunning with its bright lights and ads on giant screens.
Shopping was absolutely worth it in the Woodburry factory outlet at Hilburn. Branded stuff at amazingly low prices!! Wish I've gotten more stuff actually. :P
Cons
Not enough time in NY. Plus days of travelling from city to city and flying from coast to coast = exhaustion.
It's been cool to have the chance to go to US. To see the different side of the continent and be open to new cultures. Hope that I can make it for the next trip over there again!
